Cute Ideas to Do with your Family and Kids
1) Lollipop Seeds
This is the cutest idea I've found so far. It's a tradition from the family of one of my closest friends.
Buy some flower seeds (ones that you would grow in your garden) and tell your young child they are lollipop seeds. Plant the seeds with your child. That night or early the next morning when they are not looking, stick lollipops in the ground where you planted the seeds. Stick in tons...30, 40, 50, more! Bring your child out in the morning to see all the lollipops that grew overnight!
Consider connecting this tradition to a holiday. We did it the day before Easter and had Easter lollipops on Easter in addition to the Great egg hunt. My 3 year old son was in sheer delight that his lollipop seeds grew overnight and he's still "mining" his garden a week later.
2) Homemade Alphabet book
Print large letters (all 26 of them) on separate sheets of paper. Purchase a binder and the plastic sheet covers (the ones with holes in them so that you can put them in a binder). Add images to each letter page of objects, people, and other things that start with each letter. For example, for the letter D page, cut out a picture of Daddy, a picture of a dog, an image of a Doctor, an image of a dolphin, a picture of your child's friend "David", etc. Use your own pictures, magazines, the Internet, etc to find images. Glue or tape all of the images on the 26 letter pages. Put them in the plastic covers and put them into the binder. Create a page for the front of the binder that says "Annie's Alphabet Book". Continue to add to the alphabet book. Use this alphabet book to teach your child the alphabet book.
