First Solid Foods
From Mommyplace.com WiKI Page
Starting real food (solids) can be terrifying because of fear your baby/toddler will choke. We did not start solids until our son had several teeth. I also recommend asking your Pediatrician if your child is ready for solids. The AAP recommends that an infant not be started on solid foods until after 6 months of age.
Here are some of the solid foods that you can start with. Cook raw vegetables and fruits, and puree them to a smooth consistency at first. Start with one tablespoon mixed with breastmilk or formula, and gradually increase the quantity.
Rice and Oatmeal cereals are the least of the allergenic grains
Avocado and Banana, mash with a fork
Apples and Pears
Sweet Potatoes
Acorn/Butternut Squash
Green Beans
Whole Milk Yogurt (7-8 months)
We also bought a little mesh bag tool (available at Target and Babies R Us in the baby/toddler food sections) that allows baby to suck on the fruits through the mesh.
Other more "solid" foods to start once your baby/toddler demonstrates success with the mashed stuff are:
yogurt
cheerios
gerber puffs
cottage cheese
