Best workouts for the time starved
From Mommyplace.com WiKI Page
Let's face it. Most moms do not have alot of time to workout. Here are some of the best 30-45 minute workouts.
1) Run
I find running to be the form of exercise that really helps me shed the pounds and get into shape. Many, many people have told me how bad running is for your body and I'm sure to some degree there is some truth to what they say but with millions and millions of runners out there, it can't be that bad! As little as 20-30 minutes a day makes a difference. If you can tack on a few situps and pushups at the end of the run, you have a fully body workout in about 40 minutes. If you have never run, check with your Dr. If you get the greenlight, find a beginning running program online. Runnersworld.com [1] has a great one. Be sure to get a good pair of running shoes. Runnersworld.com has some good info on shoes too.
2) Swim
Swimming is a full body, no impact workout that is great for the body and great for weightloss. It's probably the form of exercise that is the most difficult to start too. But 30 mins of laps in the pool will really make a difference. If you have never swam for exercise, check with your Dr. If you get the greenlight, look into Master swim programs in your area. Master swim programs are for people of all levels. You likely will not be the only beginner. If you are not ready for Masters, you might consider taking a swim lesson from someone who can teach you how to create a 30 minute workout. There are also some great books out there that I've used when I started swimming for triathlon training. If you are going to swim, get yourself a good swim workout suit (e.g., speedo), a swim cap, and a good pair of goggles. Don't skimp on the googles. Nothing sucks more than having to dump water out of your goggles between laps. I actually swim with outdoor/lake/ocean googles b/c they are bigger and I find they keep the water out better for me which is important since I wear contact lenses. Also buy some goggle anti-fog drops. Put these into your goggles everytime before you get into the pool. You will never have to wipe your goggles with this stuff in them. Consider getting some fins and some hand paddles to help you work on your stroke.
